PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The city will begin resurfacing Walnut Street on Tuesday, closing off parking along a stretch of the road as crews start work on the street’s south side, the Portsmouth Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Allard Excavation is the contractor for the Walnut Street Resurfacing Project, according to the police department. No-parking signs will be posted along Walnut Street from Norfolk to Buch streets, and residents in that area will need to find an alternative place to park while the work is underway. The department asked drivers to plan for traffic delays near the site.
The project adds a second active work zone to the city’s road network. Pleasant Avenue remains closed for repairs, the department said, a closure that predates the Walnut Street project.
City Manager Sam Sutherland flagged the coming disruption to Portsmouth City Council last month, saying the Walnut Street project would be difficult for drivers to navigate and advising residents in the Wheelersburg area to use the bridge to avoid delays once work began.
