PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — The Pickaway County Emergency Management Agency has lifted evacuation orders for Saltcreek Drive and the area of state Route 56 east of Laurelville, saying the highway has reopened and residents may return home.

UPDATE (Sept. 20, 9:30 a.m.): This story has been updated with additional information from the Pickaway County Emergency Management Agency.

The evacuation had been in effect after heavy overnight rainfall along Salt Creek prompted the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office to warn residents along Salt Creek Drive and the surrounding waterway to prepare to evacuate early Sunday.

The American Red Cross shelter set up at Union-Scioto Schools, 1565 Egypt Pike in Chillicothe, has closed, the agency said.

Standing water remains in the area and throughout the county, and additional rain is forecast for Sunday afternoon and evening and into the week, the agency said. With the ground already saturated, officials urged residents to stay aware of their surroundings and to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Residents who sustained flood damage were asked to report it through the agency’s online damage assessment form to help identify needs and trends countywide.

Residents with non-emergency questions were directed to contact the sheriff’s office at 740-420-5850.
