CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — East Seventh Street has reopened to traffic beneath the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge, the city announced this week, after crews finished a project to repair the span’s retaining wall and replace the bridge itself.

The affected stretch of roadway, at the intersections of Redd Street and Sugar Street, had been closed to allow Norfolk Southern crews to complete the work, according to a statement posted to the city of Chillicothe’s Facebook page.

A photo the city shared alongside the announcement shows freshly paved asphalt running beneath the repaired black steel bridge span, with traffic barrels and sidewalk-closed signage still in place along the shoulders as crews wrap up finishing work in the area.

City officials thanked residents for their patience while the roadway was closed and asked drivers to continue to use caution near the work zone.
