HILLSBORO, Ohio — Highland County residents with old tires or dead electronics piling up in the garage will have a place to take them next month, as the RPHF Solid Waste District and the Highland County Health Department host a tire and electronics disposal event.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 22 at 1487 N. High St. in Hillsboro, according to a Highland County Health Department Facebook post. It is open to residents of Ross, Pickaway, Highland and Fayette counties, the four-county area served by the RPHF Solid Waste District, but not to businesses.
Each vehicle may drop off up to five passenger tires free of charge, the health department said. Beyond that limit, passenger tires cost $8 each, truck tires cost $18 each and tractor tires cost $50 each, with off-the-road tires priced on site. Old cathode-ray tube monitors will be accepted for $5 each and televisions for $20 each. Tires may be left on or off the rim.
Organizers said the collection is first come, first served and warned that containers could fill before the event’s scheduled end time. “Due to high demand, we will stop accepting items when containers are full,” the health department said in its post.
Miscellaneous items not listed in the posted fee schedule will be priced on site. State law prohibits transporting more than 10 tires at a time unless the hauler is registered with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, according to the announcement. Residents were advised to check the district’s website for any weather-related delays or cancellations.
The RPHF Solid Waste District has managed solid waste disposal and recycling programs for Ross, Pickaway, Highland and Fayette counties since 1989, offering residents various options for disposing of items that don’t belong in curbside trash, including tires and electronics.
