PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A road on the city’s edge will shut down for roughly six months starting next week, and the Portsmouth Police Department is urging drivers to start planning a detour now.
Schere’s Hollow Hill is scheduled to close Aug. 3 and remain closed for approximately 180 days, the police department said in a social media post. Signs marking the closure have already been posted along the route, according to the department.
The department’s post did not specify what work is prompting the extended closure or which roads will serve as detours. Portsmouth, the seat of Scioto County along the Ohio River, is crossed by a number of narrow hillside roads and hollows connecting outlying areas to the city’s core, and long-term closures on those routes typically push traffic onto larger corridors while crews work.
Drivers who regularly use Schere’s Hollow Hill should identify an alternate route before the closure begins Aug. 3, the department said.
