PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Portsmouth City Health Department’s Primary Care Clinic is accepting new patients, with same-day appointments and walk-in visits available, the department announced.

The clinic, located at the health department’s headquarters at 605 Washington St., treats patients regardless of insurance status. It accepts Medicaid, Medicare and commercial insurance, and offers a sliding-fee discount of up to 40% for uninsured patients who provide proof of income, according to the department.

Latonia Howard, a certified nurse practitioner, is among the providers seeing patients at the clinic, the department said in its announcement.

The Primary Care Clinic operates alongside the health department’s other services, which include immunizations, physicals and allergy care. The health department, headed by Health Commissioner Chris Smith with David K. Byers, M.D., serving as medical director, describes its mission as working to “bridge the gap of unmet health care needs” for Portsmouth residents.

The health department’s offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patients can schedule a primary care appointment by calling 740-353-8863.
