CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department has promoted Officer Christopher McGowan to the rank of sergeant, the department announced in a Facebook post.
McGowan pinned on his new badge during a ceremony at the department, according to the post, which was accompanied by photos of Police Chief Ron Meyers addressing the newly minted sergeant and of McGowan receiving his badge.
McGowan began his law enforcement career as a deputy with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 before joining the Chillicothe Police Department in 2007, according to a biography published by the Ohio Tactical Officers Association, where McGowan serves as a training coordinator. He has spent more than two decades in law enforcement, the bulk of it with the Chillicothe department.
Since 2010, McGowan has also served on the Chillicothe Police Department’s SWAT team, according to the same biography. He currently holds the title of RED Team Cadre and Region 7 Training Coordinator for the Ohio Tactical Officers Association, a statewide organization that trains and certifies tactical officers across Ohio.
As sergeant, McGowan takes on a supervisory role within the department, which is led by Meyers and serves Chillicothe, the seat of Ross County and home to roughly 22,000 residents. The department is headquartered at 28 N. Paint St.
