GREENFIELD, Ohio — The Greenfield Peace Officers Association will hold orientation sessions this month for the summer session of its police academy, giving prospective cadets a chance to complete paperwork, learn about financial aid and meet instructors before training begins.
The orientation sessions are set for Aug. 12 and Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Jefferson Street Business Center, 1300 Jefferson St. in Greenfield, according to a flyer posted by the association. Attendees will be able to ask questions about the program in addition to handling enrollment paperwork.
The academy has been training peace officers since 1992, when its first class graduated 20 cadets who went on to careers in law enforcement, according to the academy. Since then, the program says it has graduated hundreds of officers who now serve communities across the region.
The academy’s curriculum includes physical fitness training, with candidates required to meet age- and gender-specific fitness standards at both entry and graduation. Cadets also get ride-along opportunities with the Greenfield Police Department as part of their preparation for a law enforcement career.
The association describes the academy’s mission as “building tomorrow’s officers, today,” and bills the orientation as the first step for anyone considering a career in law enforcement.
