PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Shawnee State University has hired Cindi Remy, a Pike County native with nearly three decades of experience in journalism and public relations, as its new chief communications officer.
Remy will lead the university’s internal and external communications strategy and work to strengthen SSU’s brand and visibility on a local, state and national level, according to the university.
“Shawnee State students and faculty are doing impressive things every day,” SSU President Eric Andrew Braun said in a statement. “Cindi’s decades of experience in journalism and public relations, together with a strong commitment to this region, will continue to elevate and amplify our university’s great work and impact.”
Remy said in a statement that her focus has long been on telling the story of the region.
“While my news career played a significant role in my experience as a storyteller and leader, my passion has always been highlighting southern Ohio and finding ways to improve our community,” Remy said. “Education is the foundation of economic growth and Shawnee State University is leading the region.”
Remy, a graduate of Ohio State University, lives in Waverly with her son, Landon, who is an incoming business management major at Shawnee State.
The hire comes weeks after Gov. Mike DeWine reappointed Scott Williams to the university’s board of trustees.
