HAMDEN, Ohio — The Hamden Firefighters Association will hold its fifth annual Chinese auction fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 8, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Hamden Firefighters Community Building, 138 East Railroad St.

Winners do not need to be present to claim their prizes, the association said in a Facebook post. More than 150 gift cards have already been donated by community members and businesses ahead of the event, along with other prizes.

In a Chinese auction, participants buy tickets and place them in containers next to individual prize items, with winners drawn from each container rather than through a single raffle drawing.

The Hamden Firefighters Association is a nonprofit organization that raises money to support the Hamden Volunteer Fire Department, which provides fire protection to the village of Hamden along with Clinton and Vinton townships in Vinton County. The association regularly holds fundraisers, including a weekly bingo game, at the Firefighters Community Building to help fund equipment and operations for the volunteer department.

All proceeds from Saturday’s auction will go to the Hamden Firefighters Association, according to the post.
