PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Portsmouth City Council will take up three pieces of legislation at its Monday meeting, including formal acceptance of a state brownfield remediation grant, a lease of a city park to a Sciotoville youth sports league and a cooperative agreement with the Scioto County Engineer’s office, according to a city manager’s conference agenda the city posted to Facebook.
The agenda, prepared by the Office of the City Manager for the Aug. 10 meeting, lists three items of “legislation requested”: acceptance of a Brownfield Remediation Grant, designated CM 26-45; a lease of Rose Street Park to the Sciotoville Youth Sports Leagues, designated CM 26-46; and a cooperative agreement resolution with the Scioto County Engineer, designated CM 26-47. The agenda did not include further detail on the items.
The brownfield item follows a round of state funding announced in May, when Gov. Mike DeWine’s administration awarded Portsmouth more than $400,000 in brownfield remediation money through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program for asbestos abatement and demolition of two long-vacant commercial buildings at 802 and 804 Chillicothe St. in downtown Portsmouth, with plans to redevelop the site for community housing. Council already approved a separate city appropriation of matching funds for planning and design of that housing project in July. It was not immediately clear from the agenda whether the item scheduled for Monday formalizes the city’s acceptance of that same state award or a separate grant.
Portsmouth City Council holds its regular meetings at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in council chambers at City Hall, 500 Chillicothe St., according to the city. Each meeting consists of a legislative session followed by a work conference session.
