CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Pickaway County Special Olympics will give residents the chance to hit a handful of local public figures in the face with a pie next month, part of a fundraiser meant to help cover the cost of sending the county’s athletes to competition.
The “Pie a Local Celebrity” event is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at AMVETS Post, 818 Tarlton Road in Circleville, according to a Facebook event posted by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office. Attendees will be able to purchase the chance to pie one of several local figures taking part, with proceeds benefiting Pickaway County’s Special Olympics athletes.
Pickaway County Special Olympics, like other county programs under Special Olympics Ohio, relies on donations and community fundraisers to operate, according to Special Olympics Ohio.
Pickaway County’s program falls under Special Olympics Ohio’s South Central Region, which also includes Fayette, Ross, Pike, Scioto and Vinton counties, according to the organization. The region offers year-round programming for athletes with intellectual disabilities, including traditional sports competitions in the winter, spring and fall, along with health and fitness programming, athlete leadership opportunities and Unified Champion Schools initiatives that pair Special Olympics athletes with their peers.
Organizers are asking the community to come out and support the county’s athletes by buying a chance to pie one of the participating “local celebrities,” according to the sheriff’s office post.
