CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe City Council will consider directing $40,000 in opioid settlement money to a local recovery initiative and a $20,000 grant to the Assistance House of Ross County when it meets Monday.
The council convenes at 7 p.m. in council chambers at 26 S. Paint St. for its regular biweekly meeting.
Among 10 pieces of first-reading legislation on the agenda, one ordinance would appropriate $40,000 from Ohio’s OneOhio opioid settlement fund for the benefit of the Hope Partnership Project, according to the meeting agenda. A separate ordinance would appropriate $20,000 from unappropriated general funds to provide funding to the Assistance House of Ross County, Inc.
Council will also consider a resolution authorizing the mayor to file applications with the Ohio Department of Transportation for federal transit funding in state fiscal year 2028, including formula grants for rural transit service and a program for buses and bus facilities, and to accept the money and sign a contract with ODOT if the grants are awarded.
Other proposed appropriations include $15,000 for Canada goose management services at Yoctangee Park, $12,240 for a replacement gas monitor probe at the closed Seney Road landfill, $12,000 for a new outbuilding at Fire Station 2, $4,380 to replace a control panel for the diesel exhaust filtration system at Fire Station 1, and $10,000 for downtown solid waste containers, the agenda shows.
Council will additionally consider legislation to cover rising costs of the city’s insurance policies and a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign two easement agreements with Ohio Power Company, a unit of American Electric Power.
Most of the ordinances carry emergency clauses, which would let them take effect immediately upon passage rather than after the standard 30-day waiting period.
