CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey has welcomed a new deputy to the office, Jacie MacDonald, a recent graduate of the police academy at Hocking College’s School of Public Safety Services, the sheriff’s office announced in a Facebook post.
MacDonald is beginning her law enforcement career with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, according to the announcement, in which Hafey called on the community to welcome her to the office’s “family.”
The Hocking College academy, based in Nelsonville, trains recruits through the state’s 582-hour Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training curriculum. Cadets must pass a physical conditioning test before they are permitted to sit for the written Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification exam. The college’s School of Public Safety Services was named the Southeast Regional Training Center for southeast Ohio in 2022.
MacDonald’s arrival comes about three weeks after the sheriff’s office welcomed another new deputy, Cathel Joseph Cathel, and announced the promotions of two longtime employees, according to the office’s previous announcements.
Hafey, a Navy veteran who served at the Pentagon before spending more than 16 years with the Circleville Police Department and rising to the rank of sergeant, was elected sheriff in 2020 and took office in January 2021, according to the county’s website. He also sits on several community boards, including Haven House of Pickaway County and Foundations4Youth.
The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, headquartered on Island Road in Circleville, provides law enforcement, court security, jail operations and other services across the county’s municipalities, villages and townships, according to the county.
