HILLSBORO, Ohio — Volunteers with the disaster response nonprofit Team Rubicon will fan out across Highland County on Thursday to assess damage from this week’s severe storms, according to the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said Team Rubicon crews, made up largely of military veterans and known by their gray T-shirts, will be in the county Aug. 13 conducting the assessments and asked residents to give the volunteers a warm welcome if they are seen in neighborhoods.
The deployment comes after severe storms swept through Highland County on Tuesday, downing trees and power lines across the county, with the heaviest damage reported south of U.S. Route 50.
Team Rubicon is a national organization that deploys veteran volunteers to disaster sites to help communities assess damage and plan recovery efforts, according to the sheriff’s office. The assessment team’s findings in Highland County will help local officials understand the scope of the storm’s impact and determine next steps for recovery, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said more updates will follow as the assessments continue.
