WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — The Concord-Green Fire Department is asking residents across its coverage area whether they support building a new fire station, as the volunteer department begins early planning on a project it hopes will serve firefighters and the community for years to come.
“This is your fire department and we want to build a station that the firemen and the community deserve and need,” the department said in a Facebook post this week, posing what it called a “question of the week”: Do you believe the community would benefit from a new fire station, and how?
The department said it wants feedback not only from residents of Concord, Green and Perry townships, the Fayette County communities it directly serves, but from anyone in the surrounding area, noting it is frequently dispatched to assist neighboring fire departments through mutual aid agreements.
The department operates from a single station, listed in Fayette County facility records as Station 300 on Worthington Road, and fields a roster of volunteer firefighters covering the three townships.
Mutual aid runs are common for the department. Earlier this month, Concord-Green firefighters backfilled the Washington Court House Fire/Rescue Department’s home station while that department’s crews, along with Jefferson Township Fire, battled a blaze at an abandoned grain elevator building on Clinton Avenue, according to a Facebook post from Washington C.H. Fire/Rescue — the kind of cross-department coverage the department pointed to in seeking input from beyond its own coverage area.
The Facebook post did not include a cost estimate, proposed site or timeline for a new station. It asked only for residents’ opinions as the department, in its words, “start[s] to move forward with this project.”
