CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Adena Health has completed its acquisition of Fairfield Medical Center, bringing the Lancaster-based hospital into the Chillicothe-based health system as Adena Fairfield Medical Center, the organization announced Tuesday.
The deal closed three months after Adena and Fairfield Medical Center signed a nonbinding letter of intent in June to explore the acquisition. Both organizations’ boards, leadership, providers and staff conducted a due diligence review before finalizing the agreement.
“Today is a significant day in the more than 130-year history of Adena Health, as we welcome Adena Fairfield Medical Center,” Adena President and CEO Kathi Edrington said in a statement.
Fairfield Medical Center, a nonprofit acute care provider that has served Fairfield County and the surrounding region for more than 110 years, will continue treating existing patients with the goal of minimizing disruption to operations, according to Adena. The hospital’s staff will now work under the Adena system.
“At its heart, healthcare is people helping people. Our people and the care they provide remain at the center of what we do,” Fairfield Medical Center Board Chair Matt Wideman said in a statement.
Fairfield Medical Center President and CEO John R. “Jack” Janoso Jr. said he expects the merger to strengthen the hospital’s future. “I believe joining Adena Health provides that strong path forward, and I am confident in all that is ahead,” Janoso said in a statement.
Adena Health, headquartered in Chillicothe, previously operated four hospitals with 341 beds across nine Ohio counties and employed more than 4,000 people. The addition of Fairfield Medical Center expands Adena’s reach into central Ohio and adds a hospital that has served more than 250,000 residents across five counties.
No financial terms of the acquisition were disclosed.
