CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office has a new deputy on staff in its Corrections Division.
Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey welcomed Deputy Caleb Cox to the office, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. Cox recently completed the Columbus Division of Police’s basic peace officer training program and will serve in the Corrections Division, which runs the Pickaway County Jail on Island Road in Circleville.
The Corrections Division is responsible for the incarceration, classification and rehabilitation of inmates held at the county jail, according to the sheriff’s office. Cox was introduced alongside Corporal Alec Davis, Sergeant Kyle Auflick and Captain Evans in the office’s announcement.
Cox’s hiring comes about two months after the sheriff’s office announced promotions for two other members of the Corrections Division. Auflick, who has served in the division since 2006, was promoted to sergeant, and Davis, who joined the division in 2021, was promoted to corporal.
Hafey, a U.S. Navy veteran who served with the Presidential Honor Guard and aboard the USS Peterson, joined the Circleville Police Department in 2003 and was promoted to sergeant in 2015. He retired from the department early in 2019 to run for sheriff and took office in January 2021.
