WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County’s “A Light in the Dark” Glow Walk, originally scheduled for Saturday night, has been postponed to Saturday, Sept. 26, because of rain and storms in the forecast, organizers said.
The event’s planning committee said in a Facebook post that while rain may clear during part of the evening, forecasts called for rain and potential storms throughout the hours before the walk, when volunteers, food trucks and more than 30 community partners need to set up. Many activities, displays and materials could not be safely prepared in the rain, the committee said.
“After careful consideration, the planning committee determined that moving to the rain date gives us the best opportunity to provide the full and meaningful event experience our community deserves,” organizers said in the post.
The walk will keep its original time and location: Tony’s Welding & Fabrication Stadium at the Miami Trace Athletic Field, 3772 State Route 41, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m., according to the post.
Fayette County Public Health has led the event as part of the Community of Hope Fayette County Suicide Prevention Coalition’s work, with this year’s walk honoring people affected by suicide and connecting families with mental health resources. Registration for the walk opened in July and includes glow items, information and resource booths, memorial luminaries and a photo booth at no cost, with T-shirts, a silent auction, a raffle and food trucks available for an additional fee, the health department has said.
