ASHVILLE, Ohio — Village officials have pushed back this fall’s fire hydrant flushing to the week of Oct. 5-9, correcting an earlier date printed in the village’s newsletter, according to the Village of Ashville.
Crews will flush hydrants throughout the village from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day during that week, the village said in a Facebook post. The newsletter had listed the work for this week, and officials asked residents to help spread word of the change.
Residents may notice temporary discoloration in their tap water while crews are working nearby, which the village said is normal and not harmful. Officials recommended holding off on laundry during flushing hours to avoid staining clothes, and running cold water until it clears if a household’s supply turns discolored.
Water utilities routinely flush hydrants to clear sediment and mineral buildup that accumulates in distribution lines, a maintenance step that also lets crews confirm hydrants are delivering adequate flow and pressure for firefighting.
Ashville, a village of about 4,600 residents in Pickaway County roughly 17 miles south of Columbus and eight miles north of Circleville, is one of several communities in the region to schedule hydrant flushing this fall.
