HILLSBORO, Ohio — Hillsboro City Schools has confirmed that its School Security Officers are armed while on duty, saying the officers are authorized to carry firearms under Ohio law, district policy and required training and certification standards.
The district posted the confirmation to its website Sept. 17, describing the armed officers as part of its broader school safety and emergency response plan.
“Hillsboro City Schools is committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students, staff, and visitors,” the district said in the statement.
The School Security Officers work in coordination with school administrators and local law enforcement, according to the district.
The district said it appreciates the continued support of students, staff, families and the community as it works to provide a safe learning environment for what it called “every student, every day.”
