WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — A suspect is in custody after shots were fired Thursday during an incident that drew a large law enforcement presence to a motel in Washington Court House, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies and other officers responded to City Motel, at 1524 Washington Ave., after a situation developed at the property, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. The post described a “large law enforcement presence” on scene as the incident unfolded.
Shots were fired during the encounter, but no law enforcement officers or other first responders were hurt, according to the sheriff’s office. A suspect was ultimately taken into custody without further incident, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately release the suspect’s identity, the nature of the original call that brought deputies to the motel, or whether charges had been filed. City Motel is a small, independently operated motel along Washington Avenue in the Fayette County seat.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
