ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A car left U.S. 35 and crashed into a house near the Jackson County line early Wednesday, trapping the driver and two people inside the home, according to initial emergency radio traffic monitored by the Scioto Valley Guardian.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 6:10 a.m. to the 37700 block of U.S. 35 westbound for what radio traffic described as a single-vehicle crash in which the car struck the house. Units on scene reported the driver was trapped inside the vehicle, one occupant of the house was pinned beneath the vehicle and a third person was found injured inside the home, according to radio traffic.
Ross County EMS requested mutual aid rescue squads from surrounding departments to assist with the extrication, and crews on scene described “very heavy damage” to the vehicle and the structure, according to radio traffic. At least two patients were described on the air as critical.
Crews also indicated an air medical helicopter would not be able to respond because of weather conditions, and patients were instead taken to a hospital by ground ambulance, according to radio traffic.
The Ohio Department of Transportation was called to the scene to help manage a lane closure on U.S. 35 while crews worked to free those trapped, radio traffic indicated.
