JACKSON, Ohio — A Wellston man suffered serious injuries when his motorcycle ran off State Route 788 and struck a ditch in Jackson County on Sunday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the patrol’s Jackson Post responded to the single-vehicle crash near milepost 6 in Coal Township at about noon, the patrol said.

Thomas J. Swisher, 26, was riding a 2024 Honda Shadow motorcycle south on State Route 788 when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to the patrol. Swisher went off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

Swisher was taken to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson by Jackson County EMS, the patrol said.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson City Fire Department, Jackson County EMS and Mape’s Towing responded to the scene. The southbound lane of State Route 788 was closed for about an hour while troopers investigated, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.

The information contained in this story was obtained from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
