CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The city will cut the ribbon on new dedicated pickleball courts and resurfaced tennis courts at Yoctangee Park on Oct. 5, marking the second in a series of ceremonies celebrating improvements across the park.
The ceremony is set for 4 p.m. at the Yoctangee Park tennis and pickleball courts, near the playground, according to a release from Mayor Luke Feeney’s office. The event is free and open to the public.
The courts are funded through an Appalachian Community Grant and are part of a broader round of upgrades at the park that has also included new turf, sidewalks and flagpoles near the Armory and ongoing work on the park’s amphitheater and pavilion.
“For the first time, Chillicothe has dedicated pickleball courts, giving our growing pickleball community a place of its own in Yoctangee Park,” Feeney said in a statement. “At the same time, we were able to completely resurface and repaint our tennis courts, which had reached the point where they needed more than routine maintenance. These improvements give both pickleball and tennis players the quality courts they deserve, and we invite everyone to come out, pick up a paddle or a racket, and enjoy them.”
The city first detailed plans for the courts, which include six dedicated pickleball courts, in a July announcement. Monday’s ceremony will formally open the completed courts to the public.
