CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Residents who want to bow hunt deer inside Chillicothe city limits this fall will need to complete a qualification session Oct. 3 at the Ross County Bowhunters Club, the Chillicothe Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The qualifications will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the club’s range on Moss Hollow Road, about a quarter mile off Three Locks Road southwest of the city, according to the post. Hunters need to bring their bow and a photo ID to take part.
Ohio law allows some municipalities to authorize limited bow hunts for deer within their limits, a tool cities have used to help manage local deer populations in areas where discharging a firearm is otherwise restricted. Participants are generally required to clear a local proficiency check with the police department in addition to holding any required state hunting license and deer permit.
The Ross County Bowhunters Club, based on Moss Hollow Road, is a local archery organization that hosts club shoots and 3D archery events for hunters in the area.
