ASHVILLE, Ohio — The Village of Ashville Street Department will begin its annual leaf pickup program Oct. 26 and continue through Dec. 11, the village said in a Facebook post.

Crews will travel residential streets collecting leaves raked to the curb, a service the Pickaway County village of roughly 4,600 residents offers each fall as trees along its tree-lined streets shed their leaves. The village asked residents to follow several rules to keep the collection running smoothly.

Leaves should be placed along the edge of the street and kept at least 10 feet from the front and rear of parked vehicles, the street department said. Piles should not be left under low-hanging branches, since the collection truck and its equipment need plenty of overhead clearance to operate.

The department also asked residents not to mix sticks, flowers, brush or other yard debris in with their leaves, which can damage or clog the collection equipment. Pickup may be postponed if inclement weather moves through the area.

Village officials cautioned that the service has a hard end date. After Dec. 11, any leaf removal and disposal becomes the responsibility of the homeowner, the street department said.

The village, located along U.S. Route 23 in northern Pickaway County, is governed by Mayor Roger Clark and a village council that oversees the street department’s seasonal operations.
