NEW BOSTON, Ohio — The New Boston Fire Department will conduct hydrant maintenance and testing across the village from Oct. 19 through Oct. 23, work that could cause brief drops in water pressure or discolored water for some residents, the department said in a Facebook post.

Crews will be out each day of the five-day stretch from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the department.

Hydrant testing is a routine maintenance practice in which fire crews open hydrants to check water flow and pressure, flushing out sediment and mineral buildup that collects in water mains over time. Departments typically run the checks periodically to make sure hydrants will perform as needed in an actual fire and to keep water quality up for nearby customers.

New Boston Fire is a career department with about 10 full-time firefighters serving the village of roughly 1,900 residents along the Ohio River in Scioto County, responding to fire, EMS and rescue calls.
