Barbara Dawn Joseph, 60

Barbara Dawn Joseph, 60, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026, at home. She was born August 31, 1966, in Portsmouth, to the late Russell and Ada (Tackett) Carver. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Carver and Jeffrey Carver; three sisters, Dianna Timberlake, Peggy Carver, and Debbie Carver; and in-laws, Lawrence Patton, Sue (Gary, who survives) Goodrich and Ron Stevens.

Barbara was a 1984 graduate of Portsmouth West High School and had worked as a custodian for both Shawnee State University and the Washington-Nile School District. She loved the outdoors and was a profound rock collector, always having a pocketful of her latest finds. She also loved her cats, Ms. Kitty and Coo Coo. Most of all, she was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and aunt.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerry Dean Joseph, whom she married July 23, 1989; a son, Elijah (Mary) Joseph; three brothers, Barry (Jenny) Carver, James (Tonya) Carver, and Kevin Carver; four sisters, Linda (Joe) Bramblett, Brenda Faye (Larry) Howe, Patricia (Mark) Lusk, and Laura (Tony) Green; in-laws, Nanda (the late Henry) Barney, Evelyn (the late Bob) Cole, Wanda Stevens, Clyde (Christy) Joseph Jr., Edie (Steve) Stiverson, Diane (the late Don) Craycraft, Janie (Corey) Stidham, and Randall Joseph; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 16, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Kenny Carver officiating. Interment will be in Mershon Cemetery.
