
Karen Elaine “Satch” Vandegriff, age 70, died Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Piketon Nursing Center due to complications from Alzheimer’s. She was born on December 14, 1955, in Chillicothe, OH, the daughter of Alvin and Renie Vandegriff.
Karen was a 1973 graduate of Piketon High School, a 1977 graduate of Ohio University (BA in History), and a 1993 graduate of University of Kentucky (Master of Library Science). Karen was a voracious reader, devouring thousands of books during her lifetime, as well as an avid genealogist who traveled all over the country doing research on her ancestors.
Karen is survived by her three siblings: Kay, Eddie, and Emily; five nieces and one nephew: Rebecca, Laura, Jeremy, Desiree, Lillie, and Grace; three great-nieces: Cassidy, Stephanie, and Latasha; and 2 great-great-nieces: Nola, and Wren; and a special friend: Alice Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Lorelei.
A viewing for family and friends will be held Monday, October 12, 2026, from 11:00-1:00 at Howe Wheeler Boyer Funeral Home, Piketon, OH. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio.
