Gary L. Snyder, 72, of Portsmouth, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 12, 2026. He was born on June 10, 1954, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Norman and Mary (Mowery) Snyder.
Gary was a hardworking man who took pride in his work. He retired from Voight & Schweitzer Galvanizing after years of employment. Outside of work, he enjoyed boating, traveling, and anything involving cars. He especially liked cleaning and caring for vehicles, a hobby that allowed him to take pride in the details and enjoy something he truly loved.
Gary enjoyed keeping busy and spending time doing the things that brought him happiness. He will be remembered by his family and loved ones for his hard work, his interests, and the memories shared throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Dalut, his son, Sam (Beth) Snyder of Circleville; his brother, Thomas Snyder of Portsmouth; his sisters, Lisa (Tim) Williams of Portsmouth, Starlene Jenkins of Portsmouth, and Robin (Jerry) Thornsberry of Portsmouth; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Porky Snyder; his sister, Paula Kapes; and several nephews.
Gary leaves behind a family who will miss him dearly and cherish the memories they shared with him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace, Gary. You will be remembered always.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, October 16, 2026, at D.W. Swick & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Sciotoville. Funeral Services will begin at 7:00 PM with Jack Lore officiating.
