Raymond Dale Locke, 84, of West Portsmouth, passed away peacefully on Friday October 23, 2026, at SOMC Hospice, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Born March 31, 1942, in Pike County, Raymond was the son of Charles and Lottie Alice (Childress) Locke. Throughout his 84 years, he lived a life shaped by dedication, hard work, a love of music, and the meaningful relationships he built with those around him. He will be remembered for his many talents, his varied life experiences, and the lasting memories he leaves behind.

Raymond proudly served in the United States Air Force Special Forces, carrying with him a spirit of service and commitment. Throughout his working years, he held positions with Norfolk and Southern Railroad and Dow Chemical before becoming an engineer for Boeing, where he worked until his retirement. His strong work ethic and practical abilities were evident in all that he pursued.

Outside of work, Raymond found joy in the things he loved most. Music held a special place in his heart, and he treasured the opportunity to share his talent with others. A gifted musician, he had the privilege of playing alongside several country music stars, including the legendary George Jones. These experiences reflected his passion for music and the joy it brought to his life and those fortunate enough to hear him play.

Raymond also enjoyed working on small motors, always appreciating the satisfaction of figuring out how things worked and bringing them back to life. With his love of antique cars, you could find him at car shows admiring the classics. He was formerly a part owner of the White Stallion, adding another chapter to a life filled with diverse interests and experiences.

Above all, Raymond cherished the people who made his life meaningful. He is survived by his loving companion, Peggy Hollis of West Portsmouth; his stepsons, Randall D. Hollis of Sciotoville and Phillip A. Hollis of Portsmouth; and his stepdaughter, Stephanie D. Ramey of West Portsmouth. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Coleton Hollis, Shain Ellis, James Ramey, and Kelsea Ramey, along with nine great-grandchildren, who carry forward his family's legacy.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Charles, and Lottie Alice Locke; his brothers, Jess, Robert, and Ron Locke; and his sisters, Dot and Mildred.

Though Raymond's passing leaves a space that can never truly be filled, the memories he created, the music he shared, the work he took pride in, and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His life was a collection of stories, talents, experiences, and relationships that will continue to be treasured by his family and friends. Raymond will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 28, 2026, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at D.W. Swick & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Sciotoville. There will be a Private Family Service and interment at Memorial Burial Park.
