CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The city will hold a public input meeting next month on zoning regulations for data centers, data halls, battery backup storage systems and cryptocurrency exchange or mining facilities, Councilwoman Kathy Dunn announced after Mayor Luke Feeney revealed the plan at Monday’s City Council meeting.
The meeting is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the newly renovated Yoctangee Park Armory Building, 199 N. Paint St., according to Dunn, who chairs council’s Engineering Committee and represents the city as an at-large council member.
Feedback collected at the session will be used to draft a new section of the city’s Unified Development Code addressing the rapidly growing industries, Dunn said.
The announcement follows council’s emergency moratorium on data center zoning adopted in September, which city officials have used to buy time while permanent regulations are developed. The Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce also submitted guidance to the city’s Planning Commission last month as officials weigh how to regulate the facilities.
