James “Jim” Ronald Fields, age 85, of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, October 26, 2026, at Hillsboro Post Acute. Jim was born the son of the late James Reuben and Edith Icy (Dugan) Fields on February 18, 1941, in Newtonsville, Ohio. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he also boxed and often spoke fondly of those days.

Jim was a person who never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Known as a “professional bullshitter,” he had a gift for talking and making people feel welcome. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing pool competitively. He was a talented automobile body repairman who took pride in his work.

Jim loved spending time outdoors on his patio, watching hummingbirds, and making his own feeders to attract them. He also enjoyed camping with Diana and watching Westerns. Jim was especially proud of his time volunteering at Kamp Dovetail, where he loved spending time with the kids, talking with them, and making them laugh. His time at Kamp Dovetail brought him a great deal of happiness and was a special part of his life.

Jim will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his many stories, his sense of humor, and the friendships he made throughout his life.

Jim is survived by his beloved long-time companion, Diana Wilkin of Hillsboro; his children, Lori (Bobby Shipman) Denny of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Jacqui (Keith) Montgomery of Leesburg, Jim M. (Lorrie) Fields of Lebanon, Jason (Sara) Fields of Phoenix, Arizona, Chris (Anne) Fields of Hong Kong, and Kishla Wilkin of Hillsboro; his grandchildren, Alex, Bryant, Lizi, and Hannah; his great-grandchildren; and his sister, Janet (John Garten) Fields of West Union, Ohio.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Brown; his nephew, Davey; and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Turner & Son Funeral Home. Following the service, military honors will be presented by the Highland County Honor Guard outside the funeral home.
