SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 21-year-old Circleville woman driving the wrong way on an interstate exit ramp caused a head-on crash Thursday afternoon that sent both drivers to a Columbus hospital by medical helicopter, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Chillicothe Post responded at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday to the crash at the exit ramp connecting US 23 and State Route 159 in Springfield Township, Ross County, the patrol said.
A 2015 Kia Soul driven by Kiyah McManus, 21, of Circleville, was traveling north on the ramp from SR 159 to US 23 — against the flow of traffic — when it struck a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta head-on, according to the patrol. The Jetta, driven by Logan Spray, 43, of Waverly, was headed south on US 23 and beginning to take the SR 159 exit when the Kia collided with it, the patrol said.
McManus was taken by Springfield Township EMS to Adena Regional Medical Center before being flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with injuries described as non-life-threatening, the patrol said. A juvenile passenger riding in the back seat of McManus’ car was not injured and was released to family at the scene.
Spray was flown from the crash scene directly to Grant Medical Center, also with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the patrol.
Springfield Township Fire and EMS, Green Township Fire and EMS, and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office assisted troopers at the scene. The crash came two days after a 17-year-old driver and a passenger were seriously hurt in a head-on crash on State Route 159 in Green Township, farther north on the same route.
US 23 and the SR 159 exit ramp were closed for about 30 minutes while the crash was investigated, the patrol said. The crash remains under investigation.
