BAINBRIDGE, Ohio — Downhill skateboarders and street luge racers are returning to Jester Hill Road for three days of racing this week, prompting intermittent road closures as the Bainbridge Fire Department stages crews along the course.

The event, known as Soldiers of Downhill, runs daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, the fire department said in a Facebook post. Drivers should expect temporary traffic delays and periodic closures on Jester Hill Road throughout each day while racers are on the track.

The fire department asked residents and drivers who must travel through the area to slow down, stay alert and watch for participants and spectators. Fire department personnel and emergency resources will be staged on-site throughout the event to respond if needed, the department said.

Soldiers of Downhill has drawn competitors to Jester Hill for more than two decades, pitting skateboarders and street luge racers against each other on a course known for its fast straightaways, sharp corners and technical sections. Racers reach speeds of up to 70 mph during side-by-side competition, according to the USA Downhill Skateboarding Association, which has sanctioned past events at the venue as qualifying rounds for its national team.

The Bainbridge Fire Department, also known as BVFD800, is a combination volunteer and part-time department that covers roughly 77 square miles spanning parts of Ross and Pike counties.
