PIKETON, Ohio — The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded a new infrastructure support services contract for the Portsmouth Site to AIS Technical Services LLC, a small business based in Tempe, Arizona, the agency announced.
The contract covers up to five years, consisting of a three-year base period that begins with a 60-day transition from the current contractor, plus an optional two-year extension, according to DOE’s Office of Environmental Management.
Under the agreement, AIS Technical Services will provide a broad range of services across the Portsmouth Site, including its gaseous diffusion plant. Work will include surveillance, maintenance, repair, construction and facility replacement, custodial services, grounds maintenance and snow removal, pest control, roadway and parking lot upkeep, fleet management, real property and records management, safeguards and security, engineering, training, mail services, telecommunications, and environmental, safety, health and quality programs, DOE said.
The Office of Environmental Management selected AIS Technical Services following a competitive procurement process, determining the company’s proposal offered the best value to the government based on key personnel, organization and management approach, past performance and price, according to the release.
The award is the latest step in DOE’s decades-long cleanup and reindustrialization work at the Piketon site, which has recently passed a milestone in converting legacy uranium byproduct cylinders as crews also continue demolition of the former X-333 Process Building.
The Office of Environmental Management has worked for more than 35 years to address the environmental consequences of decades of nuclear weapons development and government-sponsored nuclear energy research, according to DOE.
