PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has promoted Danny Malone to the rank of captain, putting him in charge of the agency’s jail, Sheriff David Thoroughman’s office announced.
Malone has spent 28 years with the sheriff’s office, according to the agency, working in patrol, as a supervisor within the jail, as a detective and in maintenance before moving into his new role over the Corrections Division.

“That range of experience gives him a deep understanding of how our office operates, and he brings it to this new role,” the sheriff’s office said in a post announcing the promotion.
The agency said Malone’s “hard work, dedication, and commitment to the people of Scioto County” earned him the promotion, adding that it is confident he will lead the Corrections Division “with the same professionalism and integrity he has shown throughout his career.”
The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is headquartered in Portsmouth and is led by Sheriff David Thoroughman, who oversees county law enforcement, detention and civil services through several operating divisions, including the Corrections Division that Malone now leads, which is responsible for running the county jail.
