WAVERLY, Ohio — Ford Avenue was closed between Emmitt Avenue and State Route 220 Tuesday morning after multiple communication lines came down across the roadway, the Waverly Fire Department said.
Waverly firefighters responded to the scene and remained there as crews worked to clear the lines, the fire department said in a social media post. The Waverly Street Department was placing barricades at both ends of the closed stretch to keep traffic off the road until the lines are removed.
No timeline for reopening the road was immediately available, and the fire department did not say what caused the lines to fall.
Waverly is the Pike County seat, with a population of about 4,165 as of the 2020 census. Ford Avenue runs through a residential area of the city near the Emmitt Avenue and state Route 220 intersection.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek an alternate route until the roadway reopens.
