“Grampas’s brown-eyed girl”. In a sea of blue eyes, DJ was special, and more than just eye color deemed it so. She brought sunshine and sweetness to every relationship. DJ was best friends with her sisters Carol and Mary. There was always laughter when those three got together. She cultivated a special relationship with her niece Meghan, as well as her step-grandchildren, fostering their love of animals…especially greyhounds and horses. From her first dog, Angie, through Lori, Brutus, and Tucker, DJ bonded with her canine friends. DJ loved to skate whether ice skating or roller skating, she was always comfortable skimming over the ice or the asphalt. Her meeting with Tommy Mallow, the love of her life, happened at the racetrack, where they studied racing forms and breeding history that parlayed into a lasting, loving relationship. DJ used her flair for fashion to nurture Mallow’s Clothing and Footwear into “the place to find Carhartt and Red Wing shoes” for generations of Ross County residents. Remodeling the farmhouse on the Mallow farm let DJ exercise her eye for design; making it a magnet for family gatherings. She loved to drive…especially her black Cadillacs…and visited sisters wherever they lived in the U.S. and followed sister Mary to Germany when husband Mike was stationed there. Visiting castles in Germany, feeding birds in the backyard, playing with her dogs, DJ brought joy. And that is how she will be remembered by those who love her…bringing joy.
