CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Health District recently conducted inspections in various eateries and businesses, uncovering both critical and non-critical violations. These inspection reports are available to the public on the Health District’s website.

Here is a breakdown of the establishments and the violations discovered:

Dollar General – Central Center, Chillicothe

Violations:

  • Accumulation of debris on non-food contact surfaces of a cooler in the back storage area (repeated offense).
  • Ventilation system not properly maintained, with debris accumulation on vents throughout the facility. A work order has been requested for repairs.

Massieville Sunoco – Massieville Road, Chillicothe

Violations:

  • Evidence of rodent pests found in cabinets. The facility must undergo inspection and treatment by a commercial pest control operator.
  • Insufficient hot water supply for handwashing sinks. All handwashing sinks must reach a minimum temperature of 100 degrees F. While repairs are being made, the person in charge (PIC) should provide heated water for handwashing purposes. Non-critical violations:
  • Debris build-up observed inside cabinets and on floors throughout the facility.
  • Presence of unnecessary or nonfunctional items in the retail area, including a coffee pot and microwave. Such items should be stored or discarded if not essential.

Family Dollar – Western Avenue, Chillicothe

Violations:

  • Seven cans of expired baby food were found. The facility voluntarily disposed of the cans. A record of voluntary destruction was completed and given to the PIC. Non-critical violation:
  • No “employees must wash hands” sign observed in the restroom. A RCHD handwashing sticker was provided to the PIC.

Dollar General – 19520 US 50, Chillicothe

Violations:

  • No written procedures for responding to vomiting or diarrheal events. The PIC was provided with a copy of the ODH bodily fluid clean-up procedures.
  • Gap observed in the back door of the stockroom, which should be fully closed to prevent pest entry.
  • Leaking handsink in the public restroom. Plumbing fixtures must remain in good repair.
  • Accumulation of cardboard boxes across from the produce area. Cardboard boxes and trash should be promptly removed.

Dollar General – East Main Street, Chillicothe

Violations:

  • Debris accumulation on shelving of dairy coolers.

Crazy Dogs Grill – North Bridge Street, Chillicothe

Violations:

  • Eggs stored above ready-to-eat food in the refrigerator (Critical Control Point Violation). The PIC promptly relocated the eggs to the bottom shelf.

CARDO’S FAMILY FUN CENTER INC – Nancy Wilson Way, Chillicothe

Violations:

  • Employee failed to wash hands before putting on gloves and preparing food. Employees must wash hands before starting new tasks or wearing gloves.
  • Signs of rodent pests found in the dry storage stockroom. Commercial pest control should be contacted. Non-critical violations:
  • No handwashing sign posted in the women’s restroom. A RCHD handwashing sign was provided.
  • Clean drink pitcher not stored covered or inverted to prevent contamination.
  • Various areas with debris build-up, including fryer, sauce cups, doors/handles of prep units/cooler/freezer, microwave, and hood/vent above the pizza oven.
  • Leaking handsink and 3-compartment sink. Plumbing fixtures must be kept in good repair.
  • Wall vent by the handsink with debris accumulation.
  • Unnecessary or nonfunctional items, such as popcorn, ice cream, and cotton candy machines, present on the premises. Such equipment should be removed from the food service area.
  • RFE license not displayed in the facility. The facility should prominently display the RFE license.

These inspections aim to ensure compliance with health and safety standards, and the establishments are expected to address and rectify the violations promptly.
