A basketball coach at Washington Senior High has been put on paid administrative leave.
The leave stems from a weekend basketball game where the coach was allegedly under the influence of alcohol while coaching a boys game.
There were some concerns Saturday that the coach was drunk while at work. Police allegedly spoke with the coach halfway through the game before athletic director Mark Bihl took over.
The coach — who the Guardian is not naming due to no criminal charges at this time — was placed on leave Monday after the weekend debacle.
“I can confirm that [the coach] has been placed on paid administrative leave,” said district spokesperson Trevor Patton.
“Other than that, as this is a private employment matter, I cannot discuss it any further at this time. Thank you for your understanding.”
It has been rumored that alcohol was found in the coach’s office Monday by district administration during a search, but the district would not confirm that accusation.
The coach was hired in May 2018. He will remain on leave until a district investigation is completed.
