Obituary

John Pershing Blesedell, Jr., 76, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully in his sleep January 20, 2021.  He was born May 23, 1944 in Columbus Ohio, to the late John P. Blesedell, Sr. and Naomi (Wheatley) Blesedell.  He wed Patricia Ross on December 27, 1964 and was blessed with 57 years of marriage to a devoted and loving wife and mother.

In addition to his parents and parents-in-law Robert Charles and June (Ramey) Ross, John was predeceased by his grandson, Jeremiah David Blesedell; his sister, Lola (Blesedell) Dillon; brothers Tom, Frank, Danny and Eddie; niece, Angela Caminiti; and nephew, Frank Blesedell, Jr.  He will be greatly missed by his wife Patricia (Ross) Blesedell and his sons John (Jacqueline) P. Blesedell III and Jason Ross Blesedell; grandchildren Audrey Schiesser, Sophia Blesedell and John P. Blesedell IV; sisters, Sue Williamson of Reynoldsburg, OH and Elaine King of West Palm Beach, FL; and brother, Ted (Mollie) Blesedell of Galloway, OH; as well as many nieces and nephews.

John voluntarily joined the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and served as a Marine Raider in Vietnam. He and his fellow Marines were the tip of the spear, fighting for freedoms that so many of us take for granted.  John retired from Kenworth Truck Co. and was a member of American Legion Post 62.

John had great passion and respect for the outdoors.  Whether he was simply observing the wonders of the natural world, hunting with friends, or teaching his sons the craft, he treasured his time in the woods. He felt at peace with nature and especially enjoyed watching the sun rise. Come November, you would find him perched high in a tree, patiently waiting for a trophy buck to cross his path.  His hunting and shooting skills are even now being passed down to future generations.

John’s unique sense of humor and infectious laugh brought smiles to the faces of so many who knew and loved him.  John especially loved the children in his family.  He always found time to listen to them, play with them and to tease them unmercifully! He was a reliable man who helped so many in their time of need.  John was the salt of the earth and he will be missed beyond measure.

Public calling hours will not be observed.  A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in the Ware Funeral Home.  A public graveside service will follow at Mound Cemetery in Piketon, Ohio, at approximately 3:00 PM. with Pastor Jamie Miller officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
