CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police are investigating the burglary of a local dollar store.
According to the Chillicothe Police Department, officers responded to Dollar General on Bridge Street early Monday morning after a burglar alarm sounded. Once they arrived on scene, officers saw the front door had been bashed opened and a yellow shopping cart with a large black box in it was in the middle of the parking lot. It would later turn out that the black box in the shopping cart was a safe that had been stolen from inside the store. Officers said that security camera video shows a man busting through the front door, milling around inside, and lifting the safe off the ground, putting it into a shopping cart, and rolling out the front door.

“The male can be seen struggling to try to get the cart upright in the parking lot and then runs away in the west direction,” police officers wrote in their report. Officers said security camera video captured the entire incident that shows the suspect in plain view. Store managers said they did not know how much money was in the safe, but that it contained numerous deposits from the cash registers.
The burglar was masked, and is described as a white male, average build, wearing blue jeans, a black sweatshirt, light colored under shirt, blue shorts or boxers, brown boots, black gloves, and a gray ski mask with white design on the front. Officers said they would later respond to a call of a stolen car, which was found. In the backseat, officers said they found gloves and a ski mask matching those used in the burglary.
