WEST VIRGINIA —- Former West Virginia legislator Derrick Evans pled guilty Friday to his part in the January 6 insurrection at the United States Capitol.

Evans had recently been elected when he live-streamed his participation in the riot.

Federal prosecutors said Evans could be heard in the online video encouraging others to storm the building.

Derrick Evans faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in June.

In his resignation letter to the West Virginia House of Delegates at the time, Evans said, “I take full responsibility for my actions, and deeply regret any hurt, pain, or embarrassment I may have caused my family, friends, constituents, and fellow West Virginians.”
