WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Law enforcement in multiple counties are leading a joint investigation into the shooting of an Uber driver.

The details are messy and convoluted, but Fayette County Sheriff Vernon P. Stanforth said that nurses from Mount Carmel Grove City called them and said that a Westerville man had come into their emergency room with a gunshot and said he was shot in Fayette County but drove himself to the hospital.

Stanforth said the 28-year-old victim is an Uber driver from Westerville and had transported two people from the Columbus area to the home on Brock Road near Washington Court House. Shortly after dropping the people off, he received a telephone call and returned for them. That’s when, the Sheriff said someone opened fire on the car, with one of the bullets going through the door and into the driver’s foot.

Using search warrants and information obtained through investigative tactics, deputies raided a home on Brock Road belonging to Joshua Hudson, 43.

“Evidence believed to be related to the reported crime was located and collected by detectives,” Stanforth said. “Joshua Hudson was placed under arrest by detectives and charged with one count of felonious assault.”

He added that deputies are working with Grove City Police to solve the case.

The two passengers have yet to be identified, but Stanforth said deputies continue their investigation.
