WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Drug Administration has issued a warning following a new dangerous social media trend.
The FDA released a statement regarding the recent Tik Tok challenge that urges young people to cook chicken in NyQuil.
An FDA spokesperson said, “Boiling a medication can make it much more concentrated and change its properties in other ways. Even if you do not eat the chicken, inhaling the medication’s vapors while cooking could cause high levels of the drugs to enter your body. It could also hurt your lungs. Put simply: Someone could take a dangerously high amount of cough and cold medicine without even realizing it.”
A previous Tik Tok trend encouraged individuals to take high doses of Benadryl, an allergy relief medication, to induce hallucinations.
Procter & Gamble the manufacturer of Nyquil, released a statement saying, “Consumer safety is our number one priority, and we do not endorse any inappropriate use of our product.”
