OHIO — Residents across the Buckeye State take to the polls today.

Several key races include Ohio’s highly contested gubernatorial race between Democrat and former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and incumbent Governor Mike DeWine. The two candidates have been at odds over multiple issues, including gun control and abortion rights.

One of the hottest races of the entire election cycle is between Democrat Tim Ryan and Republican J.D. Vance. Both men are running for the Senate seat held by retiring Senator Rob Portman. Recent polls have shown both men in a dead heat.

In addition, several local and state issues are on the ballot including a proposed amendment to Ohio’s State Constitution.

The proposed amendment would prohibit local governments from allowing non-electors to vote. This would require that “only a citizen of the United States, who is at least 18 years of age and who has been a legal resident and registered voter for at least 30 days, can vote at any state or local election held in this state, and prohibit local governments from allowing a person to vote in local elections if they are not legally qualified to vote in state elections.”

If passed, the amendment will be effective immediately.
