LUCASVILLE, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a pair of fires and two deaths in Scioto County after receiving a chilling 911 call on Saturday afternoon. The caller not only reported the incidents but shockingly confessed to causing his father’s death before taking his own life.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman stated his office received the 911 call on Saturday. The caller, John Thomas “J.T.” Grooms II, 28, claimed there was a fire at his house located at 13300 U.S. Highway 23 in Lucasville.
In a further shocking revelation, Grooms stated there was a second fire located on Nesbitt Road in Lucasville, where he admitted his father, John Grooms, 76, was dead and that he was responsible for his father’s murder.
Before first responders could arrive to the younger Grooms’ home, he took his own life after setting his own house on fire, too.
The Scioto County Coroner was summoned to both locations. A detective from the Sheriff’s Office, in tandem with investigators from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, responded to both fire scenes. Bodies were recovered from both scenes and have been transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsies.
