COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio is accelerating its push towards a comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) charging network with the opening of two new fast-charging stations funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.
Governor Mike DeWine announced the completion of these stations, emphasizing Ohio’s commitment to supporting EV drivers across the state. The new facilities are located at Casey’s Gas and Convenience near Interstate 75 and National Road in Lima, and at the Pilot Travel Center near I-71 and State Route 61 in Marengo. Each station features four ports capable of simultaneously charging electric vehicles with at least 150 kW, allowing drivers to power up in approximately 30 minutes.
“These new NEVI-funded stations are pivotal in Ohio’s efforts to build a reliable charging network that meets the needs of today’s electric vehicle drivers and prepares for future demand,” Governor DeWine stated.
Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jack Marchbanks echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strategic placement of the stations to enhance convenience and accessibility for EV owners traversing the state. He also expressed anticipation for additional stations slated to open in the coming months.
Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt commended Ohio’s progress, noting that the stations were made possible through federal investments under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Bhatt emphasized the national effort to expand EV infrastructure, aiming to deploy 500,000 publicly accessible charging stations by 2030.
Ohio, an early leader in the NEVI initiative, opened its first fast-charging station late last year. With three stations now operational and 13 more under construction, the state plans to continue expanding its network. An additional 29 locations are in the planning stages, slated for construction in 2024 and 2025.
The state has allocated over $30 million from NEVI funds, matched by nearly $10 million from private developers, to advance EV charging infrastructure. Residents and travelers can track station locations and construction updates through an interactive map provided by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
